We're working with Microsoft support on getting the offline feature back because it is a show stopper for us. If you need it as well then give us your support at the following link: experience.dynamics.com/.../idea
which offline features you are talking about... is it related to outlook... or ?
MS is investing heavily in online and its feature, as per road map they are updating it regularly in every 6 months time. Its a strategy that is working well, they will keep the onprem relatively behind in terms of features.
I’m talking about the offline feature Microsoft took away (it was there in previous on-premise versions) for the outlook client. It is one thing to make features available on-line first, it is another to take away features to force customers to go online.
The Classic outlook client still supports Offline feature. Microsoft was going to deprecate the classic outlook client and force the users to move to the new App for Outlook modern outlook web add-in. This new app does not support offline feature. Due to overwhelming requests from customers around the world, Microsoft has reversed on its decision to deprecate the classic outlook client.
So in short, the outlook offline feature is there in the classic client and you can continue to use the feature. Please refer to the link below for the Outlook client offline feature for Dynamics 365
If you do not need offline feature, it is recommended that you consider using the new App for Outlook.
Wrong. We thought the same until we were 80% done with our migration to v9 on-premise. It is not even mentioned in the requirements page https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/outlook-addin/admin-guide/software-requirements, it is buried in the foot note of the What's new page https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/get-started/whats-new/customer-engagement/dynamics365-on-premises-features
Microsoft gave us their apology for not documenting it properly but since no other customer are supporting the idea, they closed my ticket with the following email:
"Good morning Marc,
Hope you are doing fine!
Today we received an update from the Dev team, unfortunately it is the same message didn’t changed since it is not in the roadmap of our developer team to add back the feature for On premises.
I really apologize for all the inconveniences that this has caused to you and as mentioned before by experience I know that if you post in Dynamics Ideas gets multiple votes our product team can evaluate to return the feature back.
With this said I really hope you have a wonderful day and week!"
Considering the feature already exists for v9 on-line, I would assume it would have been a simple task to have it for on-premise customers as well.
Microsoft 1, Customers 0
Its really sad to hear... Thanks for bringing it to community attention.
You're welcome. Hopefully no other customer will start their migration and have to downgrade to v8 as it was the case for us.
If you care about the functionality, you can still vote for the idea: https://experience.dynamics.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=0eb664b6-8280-e911-80e7-0003ff689b0e
As of today, it is still the only way to get offline for on-premise customers.
Thanks for sharing details here, sorry I was not aware that the offline feature has been pulled from V9. I think one of the motives behind pulling offline on the classic client is to increase the adoption of the modern App for Outlook Web Add-in. I understand the App for Outlook can work with many platforms and with it being UCI based, there are loads of benefits but offline is key to many customers. I hope there will be some solution to this in the future at least. I know you could try and connecting V8 version of outlook client to V9 but even if that works, it's only a workaround.
