I m trying to insert a new button on register page which when clicked need to take me to the sign in page. I tried to follow the steps given in the below link

Hi Edev, I have had similar issues also - It's been my first time doing a portal I used a few site settings to change login from User to >Email as required.
spandcrm.com/.../dynamics-365-full-list-of-dynamics-portals-site-settings that might be useful to you going forward if you wish to do something similar.
I also was having a further look on Linkedin not sure this would help- it does look at customising the sign in page:
My last suggestion would be to try and get in touch with Nick Doleman:
he is basically the community guru on Dynamics 365 for Portals and has a huge amount of useful blog posts around Portals which might be useful.
