I want to automate data import (contacts, leads) to CRM Dynamics 2015 from SQL server database.
I'm aware of the 3rd party solutions available but I need to manually do it.
I'm a beginner (still a Ingenieering student) in programming so every lead and suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thank you very much
If not using 3rd party tools, the 2 main options are:
The development effort is similar for either. If using SSIS you can use existing components to read the data from the SQL database, but you have to learn a couple of specifics on how to use data in a Script component
Thank you so much
I was thinking about using SSIS as I read it today
What Are the specifics I should learn ?
Really appreciate the help
As suggested by David, you could go through with either console application(schedule jobs) or SSIS package.
Its depend on your requirement which one is suitable in your case.
1. Console application is suitable if you want to import fewer records on daily basis.
2. SSIS package would help you to import large amount data within few minutes as well as you could do calculations using in between. Same way you could do system jobs for packages (Make sure that you are having kingsway software)
You said : "(Make sure that you are having kingsway software)"
Is it possible to use SSIS without having to use this mentioned piece of software (because is Payware as far as I'mm aware) ?
Thank You for the your valuable time
No way. You need to install first kingsway software to develop package.
After everything is developed and done there wont be any need for this software anymore right?
because the business will not pay for 3rd party solutions
Sorry if this is a dumb qustion
Absolutely, you need not to install it anymore after development.
Please refer below url for info:
From the kingswaysoft website
" The only limitation with the free developer license is, you cannot run the software outside of the development environment (Visual Studio or BIDS). If you would like to run the software outside the development environment (BIDS or Visual Studio), such as running SSIS packages on a scheduled basis or from a command line, you will need to acquire a license from us."
Will it work and be legal?
Can Somebody confirm that this will still work please?
If you want to start the import "manually" through Visual Studio you don't need a license. As soon as you want to automate it by using SSIS Packages you have to buy the license.
Thank you , that's infortunate because the main goal was to automate the import
Because the business will NOT buy 3rd party solutions/tools for this.
