We are in the middle of implementing a brand new large project relying on the xRM Community Portal edition.
I believe this is reliant on the 2011 Service endpoint, which announced by Microsoft is already deprecated.
I'm concerned this end point could be turned off, without having any further knowledge on the schedule for turning off the endpoint enterily (and causing our portal to not work at all!), does anyone know when this might happen?
The plan is to upgrade to the new Powerapps Portals (announced in the next major release), but this will take time and we are unsure if the functionality will enable us to replicate the portal like for like at this stage.
So my question is two fold;
Does anyone know when the 2011 Service Endpoint might stop working?
Does anyone feel/know if PowerApps portals will be as customisable as the xRM community release once released?
The Dynamics Portal Community Edition was released mainly in order to allow companies that are still using Adx Studio an upgrade path to Dynamics Portals. It was a one time release of Source Code, and no intention was made to have this working for future releases of CRM.
Dynamics Portals does not allow for making changes to the .Net Pages that make up the Portal, and the only changes allowed are using liquid code within your Web Templates or Pages. PowerApps Portals is based on the same, and although the interface is great, does not provide all the features that are available in Dynamics Portals yet (though, you can always still use the Dynamics Portals to make changes in PowerApps Portals as they share the same backend).
You can check with Adoxio to see if they have plans to have an update for this which will support the web api. The 2011 endpoint will be deprecated. Usually Microsoft removes deprecated features about 1 year after announcement, but can always change (usually based on customer feedback).
I hope this helps. My suggestion would be to take a look at Dynamics/PowerApps Portals (you can get a trial version of this to check it out).
Hope this helps.
Just a update, there is a question on the xRM portal Community edition about this.
So although the endpoint is deprecated, if won't nessasrily break. But essentially we are at the mercy of Microsoft updating the SDK to use the new WebAPI.
