I have cloned a role to rename as my own but not changed any permissions yet.
When I assign the role to a user, the whole menu bar disappears. It seems like there is no sitemap associated with the new cloned role.
Is there an area where I have to do this from or it is a completely different problem?

Have you tried to give that user sys admin role just to see if he's able to see the sitemap?
