We are having an issue with stage duplication. It appears that an end user promotes an opportunity very quickly through stages and then backward again. Timing will be within a few minutes. Interviews with the owners of these opportunities reveal they are not manually doing this. It's not wide spread but happens often enough to make reports hard to filter to the truth for a given rep or office. We've not been able to find any errors in the workflows. Users interviewed are using Edge or Chrome and rarely on the mobile app. Need help with where to look.

If your deployment is Onprem, you can capture CRM platform trace in verbose mode, trying to repro the scenario and double check what is involved on the process.
If your deployment is Online, would say to capture network traffic (such as Fiddler traces or F12 > Network), try to localize multiple requests and eventually raise a ticket with Dynamics 365 Microsoft support team.
