How to install Cumulative updates Microsoft Dynamics 365 8.2 On premise environment for existing CRM 2016 site. As the deployment package contains many files.Like Router,SSRS, Server etc.
Thanks in Advance.
Hope you are well.
Our main documentation starts here:
And cumulative updates here:
The server file is the one that will upgrade the CRM version on the servers and update the DB schema of each org with the new changes. Tools are just secondary as they are not strictly required for the CRM normal operation. Just in case you use those features. SSRS sure it can be considered a required tool as its needed to run reports.
Going into details these are the general recommendations:
- Backup everything
- restore databases on a separate environment to test the upgrade in case of failure.
- You can either do an in-place upgrade where the org is deployed while you upgrade, or you upgrade first the server and then import the org, which will then trigger the update of the Database.
- If in-place, disable the org and apply the patch you desire on all the servers in case it's a multi server deployment. Then enable the org and apply the DB patch.
- Regarding the tools like email router and SSRS these are less critical in terms of something going wrong during patching. Try to match email router and SSRS versions to the server version you just installed and that's it. Start with servers and then tools.
This is general ideas, but please let us know what are your specific concerns.
The upgrade steps are straightforward, where the major problems resides while upgrading the database schema due to data inconsistencies due to unsupported customizations and similar.
Thanks for information. When i tried installing the Server package file on APP server first using admin log in. Ended up with below error.
As i proceeded choosing cancel at each stage possible.
The first error could be related either to a bad schema of that stored procedure or really missing privileges on SQL.
Please check again if the account you are using has "SETUP" permissions as shared here:
If all seems fine, please try to manually drop that sp by doing "drop procedure p_GetAllOrgsFromAuthInfo" and try again.
The 2nd group of errors seems a bit more clear. Something happened to the setup files.
What is your source version and target version? What are the files you are using for upgrading?
From the cumulative update page?
Please find the below details for source and Target version of upgrade.
Trying to run - CRM2016-Server-KB4577501-ENU-Amd64 file as of now for this upgrade on CRM APP server first.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 (online and on-premises) Update 2.3

Below for list of files of the update package related to 64 bit installation out of this.
It will be hard to understand the full problem via this channel.
We could help further if you create a support request with us.
Were you able to understand the problem shown on picture number one and look at the info i shared?
The other exceptions could then be related to where you are extracting the CRM2016-server files or if you changed the initial directory of CRM files from c:\program files\Microsoft CRM to somewhere else manually without "telling" CRM.
Thanks for update. Was able yo install the update successfully. After running the patch update with super admin account, by dropping the store procedures which thrown error during installation process.
