I've had a request from Sales to copy notes as they are entered from an account or a contact to the parent of that account or contact. Can anyone point me to an example, or tell me if it's even possible? I was thinking of attaching it to the form's OnSave Event -- is this a viable approach?
It will be fine if the notes are no longer connected (e.g. if an edit in the subordinate annotation is not reflected in the parent's copy of the note).
Thanks in advance for any insight.
In 3.0, the mechanism to do this would be a callout on create of a note (annotation). You would check the objecttypecode property to see if the note is created for a contact or account and if it is use the objectid field to lookup the appropriate parent and copy the note information being passed in to the callout create method. You'll want to be careful of a loop because creating the note on the parent account/contact will cause this method to be called again. In 4.0 you could use a callout or the new plugin api.
Haven't had the need to do this so don't have a code sample for you.
That points me in the right direction. I haven't used callouts before, so this will be a good one to practice on.
I really appreciate the help.
