Drop shipping to our customer's customer

Hi Community!

We have this sales order scenario whereby our customer places an order with us with a request for a direct delivery to their customer's location. As a result the address is different for an order every time. We don't want to create a new address record every time because this would result in thousands of location IDs against our customer every month.

Has anyone had a similar scenario or have recommendations for how we might handle the scenario of delivery to our customer's customer?

Have you considered using a one-time delivery address on the sales order instead of creating a new customer address record each time?

In many D365 SCM implementations, the ship-to address can be overridden at the order level, which helps avoid creating thousands of address records while still supporting direct-to-end-customer deliveries.

    Hi,

If you want to use the standard option, then you will need to create the distinct delivery addresses. This indeed comes with additional addresses in the environment. You don't need to create alternative delivery addresses linked to the customer. You can also create an unlinked address on the sales order.

What is the expected number of distinct addresses you expect to end up with? The number of addresses might not be a problem. Reusing the addresses might be a challenge.

You can consider a customization where you can add a multiline field with a drop shipment address. This can result in a larger database as you would most likely need to copy the same address to confirmations, packing slips and invoices. When reusing earlier created addresses and the current address reference field, this might be better for the overall database growth.
