Hi, I'm not entirely sure, you should try disabling the options below first.

    Thanks.

    Hello,
This error means the expiration date in the Item Journal line doesn’t match the expiration date of the existing item tracking entry. Business Central enforces that the Expiration Date must stay identical for the same tracking entry, so when posting the reclassification it checks the value in Tracking Specification / Item Ledger Entry and blocks the change.
In your case the system expects 02/27/26, but the journal line has 05/27/26, so posting fails. The fix is simple: open Item Tracking Lines on the Item Reclass. Journal line and change the Expiration Date to 02/27/26, or clear the tracking line and select the correct lot again so the expiration date is inherited automatically. Business Central does not allow changing the expiration date during reclassification because it must remain consistent with the original tracked entry.

Hello , To change the expiration date on a lot using the Item Reclassification Journal in Business Central, the lot must be fully available and not split/fragmented. Otherwise, the system blocks it with that exact error.

    Quick fixes (most common first):

    1. Check for reservations/commitments
→ Go to Item Ledger Entries or Reservation Entries for this lot.
→ If Reserved Quantity > 0 or it's linked to a sales order/transfer/production → finish or cancel those documents first.

    2. Consolidate everything in one place (this is the #1 reason it fails)
→ If the lot quantity is split across multiple bins or locations → use another Item Reclassification Journal (or warehouse movement if advanced WMS is on) to move all of it to one single bin/location.
→ Once everything is together in one spot and fully unreserved → go back and try changing the New Expiration Date again (same Lot No., blank New Lot No.).

    3. If still stuck
→ Last resort workaround: Use an Item Journal to negative adjust the full lot quantity out → then positive adjust it back in with the correct new expiration date. (Creates new ledger entries, but it bypasses the reclass check.)
→ Also double-check your Item Tracking Code card: Make sure Strict Expiration Posting isn't forcing extra rules (though it's rarely the main culprit here).Bottom line: No reservations + entire lot quantity in the same bin/location = it almost always works.

    4.

If it's reserved or split (multi-bin/multi-location), that's why it's blocking. Good luck!

    Hi Aziz @Aziz Skhiri

I have already used item reclassification to make the lot on the same bin.

But I am still not available to change the New expiration date.
I don't see a problem here. As I keep the New lot number same as old lot number and keep the old expiration date on the item tracking line. It seems the system won't allow me to post the new expiration date.

    Any idea?

Do you have the same lot in multiple locations or bins? If that's the case then the item reclass. journal doesn't let you change the expiration date. It's a limitation of the journal.

One option is to change both the expiration date and lot number at the same time, and then revert the lot number afterward. Or instead of changing the expiration date, do a negative adjustment to take the lot out of inventory and then a positive adjustment with the correct expiration date.
