BC On-Prem License Backward Compatible?

Is the BC On Prem license (Which is based on subscription model) does support older versions (NAV2015/NAV2016/NAV2017/NAV2018) Or is it version specific?

Reason for the question is that we have a customer who has split from their former parent company on NAV2015 and want to re-implement on the same version for now (Due to Bespoke customization's), and upgrade to Business Central later. With new NAV license sales only available for BC are they able to purchase a BC On-premise license and use if on their NAV2015 version until they are ready for the upgrade?

Been struggling to get this answer from Microsoft and they have refereed me to the Partner community.

    No they're not backward compatible.

    As far as I know, BC cannot be downgraded, and after buying a license you have 6 months to run it, e.g. you have to upgrade in 6 months.

    Thanks for confirming. Was 95% sure but needed a second opinion as MS wasn't able to answer this one for me.

    Do you know if this is covered on any license guide?
