What is the practice way to add custom field into Sales Invoice Report ?

Posted on by 112
Hi,

In my Sales Table Header I have a custom field for remarks, I actually want to find a best way to make it appear in Sales Invoice report. May I get advice what is the best thing to do ?

And how exactly I need to do, in order to make this custom field added in there.

Well, look at the report design and consider what your company isn't using and it has a sufficient length. I can't comment on that.

To me, it sounds unnecessary risky and confusing. Creating a new field isn't difficult, it'll be clear what it's for and you won't break any existing logic.

    Hi Martin,

My intention is to, can I use (borrow) existing field ? I mean it is only a short remarks in Sales Table. And my company only use few of the many fields in that SalesInvoiceDP, and so does the information is Sales Invoice report.

I mean is there any "remarks"  like field in header that I can try to use, which often not being used.

So I'm thinking, if I can use any existing field, I can only modified (extend) the DP class, without the need to duplicate Sales Invoice Report.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately it's not clear which part you're straggling with; whether you're not familiar with F&O development at all or you have a particular problem. Let me briefly describe the whole process:

    1. Add a field to SalesInvoiceTmp table.
    2. Populate it in an extension of SalesInvoiceDP class.
    3. Duplicate SalesInvoice report (if you don't already have a copy) and add a control bound to the field in SalesInvoiceTmp.
    4. Add your new report to print management and use it.

    Hi,

It is custom field added by developer (who left), and yes, it will always refer to information in Sales Order.
    Thanks.

Is the custom field developer-added or was it added via the User interface? i.e.:

All right. Now, do you want to copy the value to the invoice journal or do you want to always refer to the value on sales order. It makes a difference when you change the value on the order and print the invoice again. In the first case, the invoice will look the same as when you printed it for the first time. In the second case, you'll see a different value than on the original invoice.

    Hi Martin,

No, in my system, we're not allow to combine Sales Orders into 1 invoice.

    Thanks

There are a few questions you need to answer before you can design a solution.

First of all, you have a custom field on a sales order, but a single invoice can contain many sales orders. What do you want to do in such a case? Show a tablix with a row for each sales order? Somehow select a single order only? Or what?
