Requisition for internal use items (safety boots etc.,)

Is there a standard (or commonly used practical way) document and process for raising and handling requests for internal use items like safety boots. We would like to use a common type of document or template either for fulfilling by purchasing or by releasing from available stock. Because, the end user (the requester) does not have to have detailed knowledge on inventory availability, vendor or purchasing. What about the “Purchase and Stock requisition management” app extension from the AppSource?

Which D365 product are you using? The D365 brand covers quite a few things, such as Finance and Operations, Business Central or Customer Engagement.

    Hi,

In my experience, a custom solution tends to work best here: requisition form → approval → LPO/purchase order, tailored to your stock-vs-purchase logic and approval rules. Business Central has no native requisition document, and while a few AppSource apps cover similar ground, a custom build gives you full control over the workflow and avoids fitting your process into someone else's app.

Keep it as an extension (not base-app modifications) so it stays upgrade-safe, and make sure the requester-facing form stays simple, item/quantity/reason only, with the vendor and stock decisions handled behind the scenes.

    Best,

Thank you very much for your reply. It is helpful. How practical would it be if we use seperate document for the processes: the requisition worksheet for the items to be purchased and general journal batch for the items to be supplied from the available stock at warehouse?

You could allow raising of purchase quotes/purchase orders for such items and use an internal vendor for these.

Do you still need to manage inventory for these internally consumed items? If inventory tracking is required, you can set up a dedicated location, manage them using Transfer Orders, and specify the requester in the remarks. If inventory tracking is not needed, you can simply handle them through Item Journals using positive and negative adjustments.

Hope this can give you some hints.

    Thanks.

    Hello,
Business Central does not have a standard employee/internal purchase requisition document equivalent to the Purchase Requisition functionality in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management. The standard Requisition Worksheet in BC is primarily a planning/replenishment worksheet for Purchase/Transfer suggestions, not a requester-facing document for employees asking for boots, PPE, stationery, etc. You can enter lines manually there and, from BC 2026 wave 1, even put the worksheet batch through an approval workflow, but it still assumes the user understands items, locations and purchasing details. For your requirement, where the requester should simply ask for an internal item and the back office decides whether to issue from stock or purchase, a dedicated requisition extension is the more practical design. A good process would be Employee Requisition → Approval → check stock → either Item Journal/Transfer for internal issue or Purchase Order for procurement → close requisition. An AppSource solution such as Purchase and Stock Requisition Management can therefore be a sensible option if it supports that exact flow, but I would verify before adopting it that it handles both stock fulfillment and purchase conversion, approval workflows, requester simplicity, dimensions/cost centers, partial fulfillment, audit trail, and licensing/support. If it does, I would prefer that over trying to force the standard Requisition Worksheet into an employee self-service process.

@CU28090508-0 The Acumens Procure-to-Pay extension that is available in the marketplace provides a workflow for internal requisitions for employees as well as a portal for employee use so that they don't need to use a full Business Central license.

    Hi,

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, there is no standard employee-facing requisition document specifically designed for internal-use requests such as safety boots, PPE, stationery, or similar items. The standard Requisition Worksheet is primarily intended for planning and replenishment activities and generally requires users to understand inventory and purchasing details. For this requirement, we recommend using a common Internal Purchase and Stock Requisition process, where the requester only specifies the required item and quantity, while the Stores/Procurement team determines the fulfilment method. The proposed process would be Request → Approval → Stock Availability Check → Issue from Stock or Create Purchase Order → Fulfilment → Closure. This approach avoids requiring end users to know current inventory levels, vendors, or purchasing procedures. The Purchase and Stock Requisition Management AppSource extension could be considered if it supports this complete process. Before implementation, we recommend validating approval workflows, stock and purchase fulfilment, partial fulfilment, dimensions/cost centres, audit trail, and Purchase Order conversion. If these requirements are covered, the extension would provide a more suitable solution than using the standard Requisition Worksheet for employee-facing internal requests.

    Hope it will help you.
