Store any template against a record

Is it possible to import any excel template on the opportunity form where each time if some one creates a new record, then this template automatically preloads, so that the user can fill this and save against the same record? Currently I am adding files to notes and this is the process I wanted to replace. I am aware that the standard templates only allow us to map to the existing fields created in the system (not the solution I am seeking), as in this case I am looking for a solution where CRM holds any excel document template and also allows me to edit and save the records just like as on any normal drive.
