This field is mostly used in PSA module in case a Resource is partially or fully allocated to a project but you can use in a field service scenario as well.

and in V.9.0 there is now the pattern that you can specify:

it is usually used with PSA but it also works in FS.
It is to be used for creating requirement distribution over a time period.
