forms.dic and reports.dic missing

Posted on by 250

I have one user that is continually having issues with GP2010 install. The forms.dic and reports.dic just go missing from the data folder. There are no error messages before it occurs. It works for days and then she'll try to login and gets the message "Cannot access this form because the dictionary containing it is not loaded". This error pops up as soon as logging in and then it freezes. She has nothing in her GP startup. And when you browse out to the data folder those files are missing. The dynamcis.set file is pointing to the data folder for both those files.

I have uninstalled-reinstalled. Permissions are set on the GP folder and reg keys giving the user full control. I have deleted the files and used Customization Maintenance to import a package file. It'll work for a few days and then those files are gone again.

I have a support ticket open with Microsoft but figured I would try here as well.

I would strongly suggest checking any antivirus software deployed within your organization and make sure you exclude both GP program folder on the workstations and the DATA folder on the network.  There is always an explanation for why something is happening, and short of someone deleting the files manually, antivirus makes the most sense.

If you want to ensure no one is deleting the files manually either maliciously or accidentally, change the permissions (remove full control) from all but administrative users.

I have the same problem with one of my users. Everything will be working fine, then one day we get the "dictionary is not loaded " error message while printing checks. It is sporadic. I haven't tried copying the reports.dic to the local C: Drive, but I will try that next. We are on Dyn GP 2010 and the user has windows 7 64bit.

So far it's working. The past couple times I have fixed it, it lasts for a week or so and then errors out. I have asked the user to check everyday and let me know how it's going.

    Beth,

    Did this resolve the problem?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Windows Xp.

I was logged in under an admin account to install and set permissions.

She is not a local admin thats why I giver users full control to GP folder and some reg keys (per KB article).

I created a GPForms folder on her C: drive and changed the .set file. We'll see how it goes for a few days.

    Thanks,

    Beth

    Which windows OS is this?

Are you installing as that user, or an Admin?

Is that user a local Admin on the computer?

You may want to try creating a new folder (GP_Reports) on the root of the C drive, move the .dic files there and then change your .SET to point there C:\GP_Reports\reports.dic ,etc
