The out-of-the-box Schedule Board views use XML for Queries and HTML for Templates.
These are shown with the source in the Tab Settings, so are available for users to change.
Can Web Resources be used in these fields so there is more control over them?

I don't think so, the details pane is the only place where you can specify one single web resource per board.
Thanks Alexander, I thought that might be the case, which is a shame as this leaves the Schedule Board rather open to user error.
Does one of the security roles manage access to the Tab Settings 'cog' control?
Have never come across such a setting. Have you tried giving the user pure "read" privilege to the Schedule Board Settings entity? If it worked, it wouldn't stop you from accessing the settings but at least from saving them.
