Hi Everyone,

We are planning to migrate from Oracle EBS to Microsoft Dynamics 365 and I would need your support to know the migration of data process.  I would like to know whether Microsoft has come up with default tools which enable in a smooth transition from Oracle to D365.   If Microsoft has default tools, is it worth to use those tools or is it recommend to opt for other options.

Regards,

Uday

I don't think that there is anything specific to Oracle, but tools for data migration into D365FO are available. Please look into documentation at Data management.

    Hi Uday,

As Martin suggest, there is no special tool for migration from Oracle EBS to D365FO.

After exporting data from Oracle EBS, you can import data into D365FO using data management framework of D365FO. Please refer the document in Martin's reply.

The unit in which data is processed during data import/export in DMF is a data entity, such as Customers, Products, or Vendors, or a group of entities, such as master data, open stock, or balances.

A typical entity contains a set of business data that is stored in a set of normalized tables that have foreign key relationships among them. The import and export operations transform the data between the normalized tables and one corresponding flat (denormalized) table called a staging table.

this could be a substantial initiative.

You need to have a list of all data elements which needs migrations.

Hoping it is limited to master data and opening balances.

You would need a data movement strategy covering details of area, details of fields, exporting mechanism, import using (data management or Excel or custom) and how to keep delta's in sync as well.

Data model of both ERP are totally different hence no tool exist which makes it completely manual. Though some part of testing could be automated to save effort.

    Other consideration is clean up.

And knowledge of target system data model would be helpful.

    Hi Uday,

I'm curious were you ever able to carry out this data migration? We are facing a similar problem and I fear that the complexity of the Oracle database schema for R12.1.3 especially the TCA customers/suppliers/vendors architecture is next to impossible to decipher. Also the lack of documentation with regards to D365 Data Entities doesn't help.

    Ravi

    Hi Uday,

What was finally done to migrate Oracle ERP data in D365? or the exercise mostly handled manually.

        Any input shall help.

We are currently looking at writing SQL to select and insert the data into template tables. My SQL is not really up to the challenge as Oracle make the EBS schema so complicated especially the TCA. Trade community architecture. There are 1000's of tables and views and stored procedures.

Also the manual approach is proving to be difficult as I can find little information on what all of the fields mean on the Dynamics 365 side. Oracle has their schema decsribed fully on the eTRM screens in Oracle support, but I need subject matter experts in the business to interpret our use of the application.

In addition did i mention that there is no straightforward mapping from one field on one table in Oracle to the data entities in Dynamics.

I'd be grateful if you can share any of your methods for tackling the migration.

    Hi,

I have a working experience of close to 15 years in Oracle ERP including TCA and currently working on     an approach to migrate Oracle data in D365.

Being new to D365 ERP area, I would need few inputs like how can D365 ERP/CRM system pull data from Oracle data base? ,  what are the transformation features in D365 etc.

Please add me if you want to my Linkedln network to discuss it further (Satyajeet Kumar , Hexaware Technologies)

    Regards,

    Satyajeet Kumar
