Excel "Edit in Excel" feature not working

So I had this problem myself and was able to resolve it by deleting the "Allowed Companies" object and opening some stuff in our firewall.  A client of mine is now having a similar issue, except no error message is displayed.  I didn't see anything in the firewall getting blocked for them either.  Here are the steps the client followed:

1. Open Contacts list

2. Click "Edit in Excel"

3. Open the Excel file and "enable content"

4. Window on the right, the excel applet or add-in, shows "Loading".  But then it just stays like that.

I don't even think the user was prompted to login, which I know sometimes it prompts me and other times it doesn't, but they didn't get an error or anything, it just gets stuck with "loading" displayed in that window and stays like that.  After a little while, the small circular icon that indicates it's actually loading disappears and only the word "loading" remains, so it seems like it's trying to load something, then times out.

If you need more details or screen shots I can provide them.  I don't know where else to even begin.

Thank you,

Tanner Ties

    Hello Tanner,

Is this specific to their user, their machine or their network?  I would start there.  Try to narrow down the common factor for this tenant that makes it work\not work.  If their firewall is blocking port 7048 it will cause problems.  It could be AV on the machines or some kind of Group Policy object.  It could be internet settings, etc...

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Thanks, Chris.

I can log into the client's 365 company and do the edit in excel from my machine, on my network, and I have no issues.  The problem seems to be on their network, i.e. no PC's on their network are able to make it work.  We opened the same stuff on their network that's open on our network so I don't think it's firewall unless maybe the firewall on the PC itself, I can check to make sure that's turned off.  Also, when we tested yesterday on the client's network, we didn't see anything getting blocked in the firewall, so I will check AV and group policy and other things as you suggested and reach out when I have more info if the problem persists.

    Thank you,

    Tanner
