How do I remove contacts from the Marketing Contact database after running a Customer Journey in Dynamics 365 for Marketing

Posted on by 70

We ran a customer journey using a dynamic segment.  Now want to remove some of the contacts to which emails were sent from the Marketing Contact database before our next contract renewal.  Without deleting the contact completely from the Dynamics 365 for CE database, what is the method of accomplishing this? Does setting a value in the contact entity accomplish this?

The "true down" i.e. reducing the number of contacts that are Marketing Contacts happens at the contract renewal date, correct?  The number of Marketing Contacts will then be the reduced per the Segment that is "Live".  For example if the Segment previously resolved to emailing 22000 contacts, but at a later time resolves to 19000 contacts, then at the next contract renewal date the number of Marketing Contacts will be 19000.

    Hello,

you have several ways to achieve your scenario of limiting your audience based on whether they have been addressed in previous journeys already.

One way is that your dynamic segment start excluding the contacts that you have reached out before. It may depend on how you track that a contact has reached a stage in your nurturing flow such that he shall not be included in the initial marketing outreach phase.

But if you do not have crafted such staging for your audience yet you can also simply use the one segment for your audience and use that for every journey as the starting point. Then add another segment as exclusion option in the segment groups of the respective journey - this would be a dynamic interaction based segment that select all the contacts that have been delivered a message from select previous journeys or in recent timeframe.

If you require to hard suppress certain contacts from a journey for good, there is also the option of a suppression segment on Journey details - but for your scenario I would not recommend using that, but rather go with the proper definition of the audience using dynamic segments.
