Trial account - managing instances without admin

Posted on by

Hi

Hopefully someone can help.

I'm trying perform a quick review of the different Dynamics 365 configurations (Retail/Customer Service etc.) to see which would best suit the use cases of a potential client.

I signed up for the 30 day free trial using the Retail option, which worked fine insofar as I can access the instance without any trouble.

Having reviewed the different features, I was hoping there was a way to simply switch the module (I think that's the right term) to 'Customer Service' in order to assess the entities etc. that come with that configuration. However, I can't seem to see any options for implementing that type of change from within the application.

I then thought that it might be the case that I have to spin up a different instance with the Customer Service option selected on the free trial page. I've been through this loop a couple of times now, and it does seem like it is creating an instance, but on the Trial Instance Picker page the instances I have created all all showing with a status of 'preparing instance', and the options to open, edit or delete them are all greyed out/unresponsive.

From my general searching on the subject, it seems that perhaps these options are not available to me as I'm not an admin on my company's O365 account - would that be right? I also read somewhere that there's a different edition for people who want full access to a development edition with all features available (which is really what I need).

My questions therefore are:

1. Is it possible for me to 'switch' the configuration of a Dynamics 365 trial instance (without being an O365 admin) or do I have to create a new one?

2. Are my instances which show as 'preparing instance' ever going to be joinable/editable/deleteable? They've been in that status for a while (30+ mins).

3. In order to get access to all features and admin menus etc, do I need to be an O365 admin? Or do I need to get the 'Developer' edition (and if so, how do I do this - when I select that option at the moment, I just get n error upon sign-in).

Sorry for the long first post, and thanks in advance for any help!

I think you're looking for the Dynamics 365 Enterprise Edition or Dynamics CRM forum.
