I'm not real technical, so I've never heard of a colo server either, so I googled it. In quotes is what I found:
"Colo stands for colocation which means you own the machine on the rack but you rent the internet connection. Typically colos have excellents pipes, meaning no shitty router or connection hooking you to the outside."
