SQL Error while updating to GP 2010

Posted on by 40

I'm trying to update from GP 10.0 SP4 to GP 2010. I've installed the client on my computer without issue, but when I launch utilities and try to update the DYNAMICS database I receive the following set of errors.

 The program then closes.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this issue?

    Hi Alex,

SQL Server 2000 is not supported by Dynamics GP 2010.  You must use SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, or SQL Server 2008 R2.  Several system requirements have changed with GP 2010.   You should be sure to review all prerequisites before attempting the upgrade.  Let me know if you don't have the documentation and I can send you a link.

From a technical aspect, SQL Server 2005 introduced a new datatype called VARCHAR(max) which is why you're getting an error on the word 'max'.  SQL Server 2000 would not support a field with this data type.

    Thanks,
    Mike

What version/service pack of SQL Server are you using?
