INVENTORY TO G/L RECONCILIATION

(2) ShareShare
ReportReport

Hi community,
I'm facing an issue while reconciling Inventory with G/L account specially when I run report for previous dates and filter Chart of accounts for previous dates eg. December 31st 2025.
When I export value entries and sum cost posted to G/L its matching to G/L account on chart of accounts. But when I Run Inventory to G/L Reconcile Report its shows a difference. Can anyone help me to overcome from this issue.

Please find the screenshot.

    Hello,
Based on your screenshots, I would first make sure you are comparing the same posting date, item, and location filters, then run Adjust Cost - Item Entries followed by Post Inventory Cost to G/L before rerunning the report. Also, don’t rely only on summing Cost Posted to G/L from all Value Entries, because the reconciliation report separates invoiced, expected, interim, and WIP costs and maps them to the relevant inventory-related G/L accounts. In your screenshot, the report shows 414,036.85 as invoiced value posted to G/L and 475,630.51 as expected cost still to be posted, so I would drill down from the reconciliation amount and compare those underlying entries with the G/L entries to identify the exact difference.

, I did checked all things. Please not that we are using FIFO method. Checked all the filters and calculated expected receipt and shipments both but not matched. Is there any other report which can match to COA.

Your G/L balance (435,274.61) includes both invoiced and expected costs, while the reconciliation report isolates only invoiced values (414,036.85). Once you run the cost adjustment and posting routines, the reconciliation report should align with the G/L balance.
    🧾 Root Cause Analysis
    1. Expected vs. Invoiced Costs The reconciliation report separates expected and invoiced values. Your Value Entries export sums only the Cost Posted to G/L, which includes both invoiced and expected postings. The report, however, shows 414,036.85 as invoiced and 475,630.51 as expected cost still pending.
    2. Posting Date and Filters Ensure the same filters (posting date range, item, location, and cost type) are applied in both the Value Entries export and the reconciliation report. Even a single day’s difference can exclude expected entries.
    3. Adjust Cost - Item Entries If cost adjustments haven’t been run recently, the system may not have updated item costs to reflect invoiced transactions.
    4. Post Inventory Cost to G/L After adjustment, run this process to ensure all cost entries are posted to the G/L.
    Recommended Steps
    1. Run Adjust Cost - Item Entries for all items.
    2. Then execute Post Inventory Cost to G/L.
    3. Reopen the Inventory to G/L Reconciliation report with identical filters.
    4. Compare the Inv. Value Posted to G/L and Expected Cost to be Posted columns — their sum should align with the Chart of Accounts balance (435,274.61).
    5. If differences persist, drill down into the Expected Cost to be Posted column to identify unposted receipts or shipments.
    📊 Additional Verification Reports
If you still need a report that matches directly to the Chart of Accounts:
    • Use Inventory Valuation - WIP or Inventory Valuation - Posted Entries. These reports reflect the same G/L postings as the Chart of Accounts and can confirm whether any expected costs remain unposted.

Hi, on a back date these two rarely tie unless every value entry actually reached the G/L. I'd start from the value entries and compare Cost Amount (Actual) against Cost Posted to G/L, normally the gap is sitting right there. Run Adjust Cost - Item Entries first, then the Post Invt. Cost to G/L - Test report before the real one, it lists the skipped entries. Skipped is the usual reason on old dates, if the accounting period is closed or allowed posting dates block it, the batch job just skips that value entry and the amount never lands in G/L.

Other thing worth checking, manual entries straight on the inventory account. Filter G/L Entries on it and look at the source code, anything not coming from inventory posting is your difference. After you find it, turn Direct Posting off on that account.

Is the difference the same on every back date, or only on 31 December?

Glad to help - follow up if anything is unclear.

►  If this solved it, marking it verified helps others too.
