Is it possible to 'Export to Excel' Lead data including activity feed data?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Version 1612 (8.2.2.333).

We currently use Dynamics CRM to manage marketing leads and sales activity. Our sales team use the Posts in the activity feed to log interaction with the Leads. We have a new requirement to export all lead data to excel including the Post data to discuss the leads offline.

Having searched the forums, I cannot seem to find a way of doing this and would welcome some help. If I can provide any more information to help get an answer to this question please let me know.

There is potentially one more answer.  You could build an SSRS Report to make a Lead/Post export how you want it, an then save the report to Excel format.  that one required a lot more up-front work, but then you' have your leads and posts laid out exactly how you want them.

Thank you Wayne, appreciate the help. I feared this might be the case - the Posts Activity Feed is a really user friendly way of documenting engagement with a lead but such a shame it's not possible to export the data it in a simple way.

    Hi Ryan,

If you are looking to have the Leads and Posts in a single file, then the Out of the box will not work.

If you want to have a list of leads and a separate list of Posts (which can include lead information), that can be possible.

If you want to have the together as a single list you can export the Posts and add the related regarding objects, but that will show you duplicate Leads, as the number of Posts for each Lead is going to be greater than one.

As mentioned, all this will be done using Advanced Find.

There are other options, but these are external to the system...

    Hope this helps.

Yes, sort-of.  In Advanced Find, look for Posts.  Those are the individual items on your Activity Feeds.  You'll need to add Regarding and Text so you can see which Lead it's regarding, and what the actual post is.

Fair warning, that's just a flat file of Posts, so you're also going to have to do a separate export for the Leads themselves if you need more information.  Which means you're going to have either two spreadsheets, or you're going to have to manually merge them after.

Also, the Text field is going to show up as XML, meaning it isn't going to be a pretty thing to read when you export it to Excel.
