N:N relationships not associated after creating from subgrid

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi all,

After upgrading from CRM 2016 to CRM 365 (v8.2.1.342) on-premises, the following situation doesn't work any more.

Let's say EntityA and EntityB have a N:N relationship.

On EntityA is a subgrid of EntityB. When I try to add a new record from the subgrid, the record created is not associated with the relationship.

RecordB is created and then I need to manually need to associate to RecordA.

This was not the case previously on CRM 2016 (v8.0) where the Associate message would get called after Create.

I have tested this with 2 new entities without any customization.

Any ideas why this change happened or is something broken on my side?

Thanks!

Lawrence

    Hi Somesh,

I have tried removing and adding the subgrid, and adding a new subgrid again, both with no luck.

I have also created new entities and the behaviour is the same.

I am guessing adding new records  via your N:N subgrid is working as intended.

What version of CRM are you using?

Sorry My suggestion would seem immature but

Can you try removing the subgrid and add it again on the form.

Or Add new subgrid again for this relationship and try if it is working with the new grid.

Childish I know, but may be worth the effort ?

    Hi Archer,

The views are the same and I am definitely using N:N relationships.

I had plugins on Associate of Entity and they are now no longer being called.

Looking at the plugin execution log, only Create and Update messages are being called after creating RecordB.

I am not getting Associate messages any more.

    Hi Lawrence

the Subgird views are a little bit tricky , are you sure you are using the same view as before , I am not sure this might be case but seems you are using the different view , as far I tested , the subgird and their function are excalty the same

what you might missed is the you expecting 1 to N relation function but you using N to N relation , in this case , please make sure you don't use " Show Only Related Record " , this part is only works for 1 to N relation , please check and let me know if you still having the same issue
