Action Items for Opportunity

Is there a way to create action items that can be assigned to people and managed to completion during the sales cycle?  I dont see a way to do that, but when you click on update, there is a box to check about "cancelling existing to do items".  How would someone enter those or know what is outstanding?

    Hi tnohelty

If you look at sales cycles that represent sales process, you'll see they consist of stages. Each of the stages can have a activities assigned to it. These activities consist of set of tasks sales person should execute to move opportunity to next stage. Through activity codes you can predefine a set of task that will get assigned to sales person working on opportunity.

To view tasks assigne to sales person, open Salespersons and then click on Navigate -> Tasks to see tasks assigned to Salesperson.

Also if you click on specific opportunits or contact and then click Navigate -> Tasks you'll see tasks associated to particular opportunity or contact. From each of these lists of task you can also manually add task for specific opportunity, contact or salesperson.

    Regards

    Ivan

    Ivan,

Thank you for the help.  It appears there are two kinds of things that can be used to drive/track progress on an opportunity.

    1.  Tasks:  These can only be of type "phone call" as it appears hard coded into that drop down.  This would seem to be a good generic way to track what needs to be done for the opportunity if you could use different values in the "TYPE" field.  Am I missing something here?

    2. Activities: These seem to be boiler plate "requirements" that the sales person should complete to move thru the sales process.  They appear to be unrelated to tasks from a software point of view.  I assume that in practice tasks will help someone track what they did to complete an activity.  There just doesnt seem to be anyway to relate the two.

    3.  In general, there seems to be some bugs that haunt this area.  You dont seem to be able to create sales teams and other little flaky things that happen.

    4. Comments:  This is also a powerful tool, but seems to be disconnected.  It would really be nice to see this integrated in one view with tasks and activities so that you could see the history of an opportunity and what was done.

Looks like the building blocks are there, just not quite done putting it all together.
