How Sharepoint integration works with quote/opportunity

Hi,

We have a server-based integration between Sharepoint Online and Dynamics 365 Online.

It's an entity based integration (account) so whenever I create an opportunity it creates a folder in the SharePoint something like accounts -> specific account -> opportunities -> specific opportunity.

The confusing part comes when I create a quote from that opportunity. My assumption is that the path to the created folder in the SharePoint should be something like accounts -> specific account -> opportunities -> specific opportunity -> quotes -> specific quote, but in reality, it shares the same location with the parent opportunity meaning accounts -> specific account -> opportunities -> specific opportunity.

This makes sense to share same files with opportunity and quote, but it makes it difficult to navigate outside the Dynamics (say someone with only Sharepoint access wants to find a specific quote, he needs to consider opportunity folders as well..)

My question is whether this is a default Dynamics behaviour and can we somehow change it?

Regards,

Arsen.

    Hi Arsen,

Have you considered checking the Document Management Settings? Does the quote entity have its own document location?

Then you could set the parent site of the quote to be the Opportunity,

When you open the document location in Sharepoint, it would look like this:

    Hi Arsen,

Unfortunately, the default integration with SharePoint is not the best Microsoft has brought out to the world. What you want it not possible by default, so you'll have to do some tricks. At our customers, we integrate Dynamics 365 and SharePoint with an Azure Function between the two. From a Dynamics 365 plugin (or webhook) you can call the Azure Function. That will create the proper SharePoint elements and connect the SharePoint Document Libraries with the corresponding Dynamics 365 records. For now, this is the best way for integrating Dynamics 365 and SharePoint.

    Hope that does the trick.

    Marc
