GP 2013 R2 Limited User and 3rd Party Products

Posted on by

I understand how limited users work and how only certain tasks (Inquiry /Reporting) are available for limited users. How does this work for 3rd Party (ISV) products? Would we be able to define what operations are available for limited users? The issue at hand is that users set as limited users are not able to access any of our 3rd party windows.

    Arun,

Mahmoud is exactly right.  It is up to the ISV to set their own security.  Any questions regarding the security setup for third parties you would want to contact that third party support.  They will be able to better answer how their security works with the limited user security of GP.

    Thanks!

It is definitely up to the third party company to manage how the security is configured regarding their product. Let's take a very convincing example, have you heard of "Post Master" by Envisage Software Solutions ? It manages integration by automatically posting batches into Dynamics GP without the need to have a GP client to be running, and it doesn't need a GP user license.

In this essence, third party products has their own rules and consideration which are not necessarily controlled by the security matrix of Dynamics GP (full or limited user functionality). Although, the rules should be under the umbrella of the end-user license agreement which has been mentioned by Joshua.

Therefore, if your inquiry is related to a specific third party product, you may discuss this with the third party provider.

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I did review the post and certainly helps understand how core GP works for Limited users. There was a statement "What windows a limited user would have access to for a 3rd party module would be entirely up to the manufacturer however." in one of the responses on that post. I was not able to figure out how the 3rd party developer would be able to "tag" a specific operation as "Allowed for limited User" for resources within the 3rd party dictionary.
