Reporting interface

Posted on by 955

We use Great Plains. I have developed some reports originally in Crystal Reports but have converted them to Sql Server Reporting Services. They reside in Report Manager. These are custom reports based on how management wishes or is used to certain data and layouts.

We are discussing how to implement the interface to these reports. Should it be done from within Great Plains, and if so, how is the best way to do this? Or should there be a new interface created outside of Great PLains.

I was interested in hearing how other companies tackle this issue.

I would 100% agree on the web based solution.  We use the canned SSRS reporting server interface and link to it from Sharepoint.  The complete Sharepoint integration, or what I have seen of it, is nice, but you have to have Sharepoint in place.  Currently we just link to the Report Server with a URL link on our main Sharepoint site b/c we have not had the time to test out the Sharepoint integration ourselves.  I would definately go a web based route however.

The reports library in MOSS 2007 would be the most universal way to go.

I agree with Frank. We typically see the Web (and now more Sharepoint) interface often with a link inside of GP for convenience.

    Trance,

If you create the interface within GP, only GP users will have access to the reports.  If you create a web interface, or use Sharepoint, any user on your network that needs access to the reports will have it.
