Captions and Tooltips, translations and localization

Hi !

We are moving our vertical from Dynamics NAV 2018 to Dynamics 365 Business Central as an extension. We' ve bee using CaptionsML and TooltipsML with text in Spanish and English but now these statements are going to been deprecated.

So I been reading we should generate the XLF file and then duplicate this file for each language, using the translation service of Microsoft Lifecycle Services translate the file for each language by modifying the target parameter.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<xliff version="1.2" xmlns="urn:oasis:names:tc:xliff:document:1.2" xmlns:xsi="www.w3.org/.../XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:oasis:names:tc:xliff:document:1.2 xliff-core-1.2-transitional.xsd">
<file datatype="xml" source-language="en-US" target-language="en-US" original="app test">

In our scenario would be more productive to write the texts of the captions and originally tooltips in Spanish (this is our primary language) and the XLF file was generated from VsCode with the target in this language and finally make English translations as indicated.

I tried to change settings in configuration files json environment, but I have not managed to do what I want. Would this be possible?

Thanks in advance !!!!

Regards

    Never tryed the opposite process (from XX to ENU) and I’m not so sure it works.

    .g.xlf file should be ENU (generated from Captions in AL) and xx-XX.xlf should be your localized file.

    What do you mean with “tried to change settings”?

    The idea is to type the caption text directly in Spanish language in the object and when we publish the package and generate the .g.xlf file this contains the es-ES target language. In this way we would get the extension in Spanish language by default and then we could make the english translation using the Microsoft translation services and not the opposite process.

    Generating translations with Translation Services for ENU is absolutely possible.

    As Microsoft guidelines, Caption should be ENU however. Test and say here if all is ok :-)

    Hi @jose-manuel-sola,

    I'm having troubles with translations to Spanish...

    I've reported my problem here in Github AL repository with a litle example...

    Have you managed to get the translations into Spanish of your customizations when the Caption is indicated in English?

    I would like to know if the problem is with my Business Central OnPremise installation or if it is a Bug with the Spanish language ...

    after having the translated file, what suppose we do ??

    I published my extension to the server but nothing changed, how can I select the new language?

    Have you switch the language in the UI? Is the XLIFF file correct?

    I will add two pics to my UI after publishing the extension to the server and another one for my xlf file.

    note: I also add the Italian language to see if the problem just with "Arabic" but also it doesn't appear, so I think there is a missing step I should do.
