High Memory Utilization when previewing reports before printing

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

We've implemented Microsoft Dynamics NAV along with Azure SQL Server in a 3-tier architecture.

However, whenever we are previewing reports before printing, the preview only shows up after about 40 secs (slow ) and a peak in memory (RAM) utilization is noticed causing NAV Server to hang.

Are there any root causes as to why we are facing this issue ?

Also is there a fix or update that needs to be done to solve the issue? (we are using NAV 2016)

Thanks

    thnxs Amol,

Is there any other reasons that may cause this high memory utilization while previewing standard reports?

It may apply to standard report also if any changes done in the report which are not handled properly.

Check the Report Information (Dataset which is send) In the Preview go to Help - About this Report. Maybe you are transfering much more data then you really expect. If there is a picture on the Report check that this picture is only send in the first Dataset Row. Clear it after the first DataItem. Had this issue time ago.

    Thanks Amol,

I will check with developers and revert back

Does this apply for standard report also?

It seems that the issue is both for customized and standard reports

    Norwen,

Please check the dataitems used, relations between the dataitems, keys and indexes involved.

You can make use of SQL Profiler as well but keep it as the last option to investigate.

Then you need to go through the report logic

Filters applied ,index keys applied in report

May be report does not proper filters and keys applied

You can ask developer to check
