Field Level Security - Hidden Field not hidden

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Good Day,

The "subtotal" and "total" fields in the SOP Sales Transaction Entry screen was hidden.  However after I allocate and fulfill inventory or if I were to print a picking and packing slip, the subtotal and total dollar value re-appears.  How can I prevent this from happening?

Thank you

Thank you David.  I will look into this.  As a user I will have some research to do.

Yes, all the unit prices and extended prices will have to be hidden as well as this is classified as sensitive information in the organisation I work.

Make the change in the Modifier and the duplicate the current Alternate Modified ID for that user and make the change so that only that use has access to the modified window.

Are you also hiding all the unit prices and extended prices as it does not take much effort to add up the values of the lines?

Thank you David for the insight.  I think the way forward will be to modify the window for that user.  Are there any links  or procedure manual to instruct one how this can be done for a single user? The other users will still need access to the full screen so I think this will have to be done carefully.

The field level security code to hide fields runs once when the window is opened.

If the window has code to show the fields again after the window has been opened this will override field level security.

There is nothing more that field level security can do.

With some scripting you could hide the fields again or move them off the visible window. You could achieve this with GP Power Tools or VBA. You could also use Dexterity or Visual Studio Tools to code something.

The other option is to use Modifier to hide the fields and give access to the modified window to the appropriate users.

    Hi Leslie,

Thank you.  Yes you did understand it correctly.  I tried hiding all the subtotal fields as you suggested but once again the order the subtotal and total figures are showing.

I can't wrap my head around the reason for it showing up after I save or print the picking and packing slip.

There are form modifications done to the Packing slip and Invoice but I do not see this as a cause for the issue I'm having.

    Regards,

    Dexter

    Hi,

There are a couple of things going on here. Your field-level security seems to be working as designed on your SOP entry window. I can understand, and would expect the amounts to print on certain SOP reports, but am I understanding this correctly by saying:

Your window hides the fields before you print the Picking Ticking OR Print the packing slip. After you print one or both of those documents, the fields that were previously hidden reappear on the screen.

    Does that sum it up?

I haven't tried this, so it may not work , but there are 2 fields as the Document amount and 3 fields for the Subtotal.

Subtotal = Subtotal, (L)Subtotal Incl  Tax, Originating Subtotal

Total = Originating Document Amount, Document Amount

That's what's showing on my window anyway, have you put field-level security on each of these fields?

    Kind regards.

    Leslie
