I was wondering if someone can confirm... a Dynamic Marketing List cannot be used for an Account screen View... is that correct?
I can use a static Marketing List with no problems, but dynamic lists won't generate an active list in the Account View screen.
Thanks
Hello,
just found this request from some time ago. And I would assume you have found an answer already. Nevertheless let me share so information here.
Dynamics Marketing lists in the classic Dynamics 365 environment contain a query ('Fetch XML' is the technical term) which is users composed with the help of the Advanced Find functionality. Views like "My Accounts" as well contain such query. Views are mostly defined as part of the solutions or customizations, or by users as custom views from the view selector; in the new 'UCI' user interface generation you can define views in the application design environment or in the administration section of some of the applications. Such views much more defines columns to show and sort order and can be submitted to user permissions.
Dynamic Marketing Lists on the other side will be typically be created by end users and more frequently updated in order to adjust the audience than view definitions that are perceived as more stable.
The entity view concept has not been built to show an audience defined by a dynamic marketing lists, but the usage patter is rather vice versa. Marketing lists utilize views of a views in order to visualize members (by replacing the query with the member selection in the lists :-)
That said - there is a patter that allows you to build a view and a dynamic marketing lists with the same query using "saved views".
First you would create a saved view in the view designer with the query you are interested in. Next you create a dynamic marketing list, and select from the saved views. When you do that, the query from the saved view will be copied(!) as the query for the dynamic marketing lists.
Just make sure you keep the queries of the view and the lists in sync when you need to update the conditions.
It's true, it's not possible to use dynamic lists in "advanced find" or to set up custom views (but static lists work fine). Here is a short article about it: www.powerobjects.com/.../dynamic-marketing-lists-in-crm-2011-results-advanced-find
