We work in NAV 2015 and have a demand for working with item versions that is not possible today? Have any of you made a solution for that?

We are working with versions in BOM structure but are also having the demand to work with versions on item. Develop something like that I assume is very complex. 

What we in first step need is to have the version for an item on the item card and added to the purchase order so it is clear what version we order. We do not have to have control over inventory, in the first step but onwards probably. Do you have an easy solution in mind for that?

We do not have the possibility to but versions in item number.

    Hi,

    as Hannes said, one option is to use Variants. Another is using Lot numbers with 'lot specific' tracking. Then your Lot number would be a version and you can have inventory quantity by Lot in the 'Lot No. Information' page or with any reporting tool like Jet Reports.

    Hi,

    First you would have to decide if you just want to "data versioning" or if your products have a version.

    If you just want to have "data versions" - e.g. you can have different kinds of Descriptions per Product - then it is not possible out of the box. You need a customization.

    In case your actual products do have a version, then have a look for "Item Variants": community.dynamics.com/.../inventory-item-variants

    The purpose of Item Variants is different to Versions, but the general ideas are matching.

    Only downfall is, that you have to maintain sufficient Inventory for each Variant.
