What is the GL account in Payment reconciliation journal?

The function of payment reconciliation journal mix up the payment journal/cash receipt journal and bank reconciliation.

When we import bank statement into payment reconciliation journal and run the apply automatically, the system will try to populate the journal line detail and apply the customer / vendor invoice to the bank transaction.

I see Text-to-account is optional, if it is the case, how the system find the G/L account for the payment? How can I find the G/L account the system pick up?

Text-to-account is just used when it can't find an open vendor or customer ledger entry. You can take text from the imported lines and then map that text to a GL Account, Bank Account, Vendor or Customer. Usually you want to use this for bank charges or other fees. It's optional because some lines are mapped automatically and others need guidance via text. If you don't do this then you just manage those lines manually.

    Hi,

The Payment Reconciliation Journal combines payment application with bank reconciliation, so it can be a bit confusing.

When we import a bank statement and run Apply Automatically, Business Central tries to match the bank transaction with an existing open Customer or Vendor Ledger Entry.

If a transaction is successfully matched to a customer/vendor entry, Text-to-Account Mapping is not required. This functionality is mainly used for transactions that cannot be matched to existing entries, for example bank charges, interest, or other direct G/L transactions.

For a matched customer/vendor payment, I would not say that Business Central simply “picks” a G/L account from the Payment Reconciliation Journal. The G/L posting is determined by the normal posting setup behind the customer/vendor and the bank account.

To confirm which G/L account was actually used, the safest way is to check the G/L Entries after posting and trace the posted transaction.

For the exact account determination before posting, I would prefer to verify the specific scenario and setup rather than give you an assumption as confirmed system behaviour.

    Hello,

Text-to-Account Mapping is optional because it is not used for normal customer/vendor invoice matching. When Apply Automatically matches a bank transaction to an open Customer or Vendor Ledger Entry, the journal identifies the Customer/Vendor, and during posting Business Central gets the receivables/payables G/L account from that customer’s Customer Posting Group or vendor’s Vendor Posting Group; the opposite side is posted to the G/L account defined by the selected bank account’s Bank Account Posting Group. Text-to-Account Mapping is mainly for bank transactions that do not have an open document to apply to, such as bank fees, interest, or recurring expenses, where you explicitly tell BC which G/L/customer/vendor account to use. To find the actual G/L accounts, check Customer/Vendor Posting Groups and Bank Account Posting Groups; after posting you can also review the resulting G/L Entries.

    Hello @STP ,

It's optional because it is only used when a bank transaction needs to be posted directly to a specific G/L account, such as bank fees or recurring expenses. When Apply Automatically matches a payment to a Customer/Vendor ledger entry, Business Central uses the matched open entry to determine the account; it does not need Text-to-Account Mapping. You can see which account BC has selected directly on the Payment Reconciliation Journal line in the Account Type and Account No. fields before posting. If the transaction isn't applied to a customer/vendor and no Text-to-Account mapping exists, you can use Transfer Difference to Account to specify the required G/L account.

    Hope this answer helps you!

    Regards,
    Mansi Soni
