Reflecting entered data in one entity to another

Posted on by 240

Hi,

How can I reflect data from one entity to another. I have a custom entity which includes new projects which are in progress. I want those to reflect in the projects entity. In the projects entity, I have a schedule tab which breaks down the time spent on each category, and I want the data entered in the custom entity to reflect in that schedule tab of Projects. How do I do that?

    Hi Aneeqa,

So I would recommend you post this thread in the Power Apps community.

    Hi Aneeqa,

Which D365 app are you using?

    Hi,

I would be so glad if you can help me out.

So I have an entity called Projects. That project contains a field called category and account. Now whenever a new project is created for a particular account - and a certain category is selected. I want that category to reflect in the 'Schedule' tab under that particular account.

For example: I have an account called ABC - and it has a schedule tab in its entity which breaks down the time spent on each catgeory. So lets say I create a new project - choose account ABC - choose catgeory XYZ.

I want XYZ to reflect in schedule tab of ABC. Screenshot attached of where I want it to reflect. I do not want to add in just the quick view form - as I want to edit the hours in front of the category.

    What are my options here?

    Hi Aneeqa,

In general, we can use sub-grid or quick view form to reflect data from another entity.

"I have a custom entity which includes new projects which are in progress." So is the relationship between this custom entity and the Projects entity 1: N or N: N?

    1) If 1:N, we will use quick view form.

Please refer to this blog: https://carldesouza.com/dynamics-crm-quick-view-forms/

First creat a quick view form for the custom entity, then open the form editor of Projects, insert the quick view form of the custom entity.

    2) If N: N, we will use sub-grid.

Please refer to this blog: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customerengagement/on-premises/customize/sub-grid-properties-legacy

    https://www.websan.com/blog/item/714-sub-grids-in-dynamics-365-everything-you-need-in-one-place

open the form editor of Projects, insert a sub-grid and then select the custom entity.
