Extendind third party model

Hi,

I have a third-party model; this model only has the folders bin, descriptor, reports, and XppMetadata. In the development environment, I copy these files and build the models without a problem. But it is not possible to see the tables, classes, etc.

I have to extend or access tables using our own custom model; the third-party model reference was already added, but it is not possible to work with this model. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

    Hi Crashman,

A deployable package does not contain the source code. Still, without the source code, you can still extend the solution.

    Sorry for the delay,

I have the Binary folder, so I only copy this folder to AOT, I can see the customizations but not tables or another object in AOT. For this object, I suppose I have to create a deployablepackage and apply it to the development virtual machine, correct?

Source code isn't stored in XppMetadata folder; it would be a folder with the name of the model.

    Hi Crashman,

You mention that you have the XppMetadata, which is indicating you have the source code? If so, you should be able to see the elements in the AOT.

Note that usually, you will get a deployable package which should be used to check-in in the customer environment and move that to the UAT and production. Source code should be used as a help for extensions and debugging, but you would not need to build it.

You should be able to extend the third party model elements if you have referenced the third party model from your own model. Why do you say it's not possible to work with this model?

Usually the third party models contains the compiled DLL so there's no code visible in the AOT and also that means you can't compile it. Can you see the elements of the third party model in the application explorer (AOT)? Switch to model view to view all the elements in the model.
