Way to differentiate test company?

Posted on by 35

Is there a way to clearly differentiate a test company?  I have a feeling that would be very useful.  In other words, live is the standard blue frames, etc, and test is green.  So you always know- and are reminded- that you're in either test or live.  If there's a way to do it now, I'd like to know.  Or any other way users keep on top of that.

To round-out this informaiton, please refer to the following KB articles involving the creation of Test Companies.

KB 871973        Set up a test company that has a copy of live company data by using SQL Server 7.0, SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005, or SQL Server 20

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;871973

KB 885542    How to create a test or historical company in Payroll or in Canadian Payroll in Microsoft Dynamics GP

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;885542

This second article also has the added value of not adding to your Employee Count if transferring Payroll information to Test.

An immediate thing you can do is add "<TEST>" to the end of the test company name.  This will provide a pop-up warning to users when accessing the test company.  While not as noticable as changing all the window colors between companies, it will provide an immediate message reminding users.

Take a look at the Support Debugging Tool.  This has a great administrative function that allows you to change window colors between different companies along with many other useful tools.

A Google or Bing search will find you all the information you need but you will need to contact your VAR for a copy as it is only available for download from PartnerSource.
