Upgrade 9.0 to 2010 and SQL 2008

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We have a 2010 GP upgrade project.  The upgrade consists of upgrading GP 9.0 and SQL 2005 to GP 2010 and SQL 2008.  Does anyone have the steps used for this type of upgrade?  Time consuming process to continually upgrade and move databases for testing (Customer wants a new server for 2008 SQL).

TIA.

Joseph

    Hi Joseph,

Here is another way that I am using in similar upgrade situations.

Assure that GP 9.0 on SQL 2005 is upgraded to GP 9.00.0375.

Next move Dynamics GP databases to the SQL Server 2008.

Change compatibility level to 100 and run all necessary pre-upgrade sql script.

Make sure that Databases owner is DYNSA.

Now you can upgrade GP 9.0 to GP2010 on SQL Server 2008.

    Good Luck

    Ay

    Hi Joseph,

You first would want to do the upgrade from GP 9 to GP 10 and then do the server move from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008. You can use the information on the following link for the upgrade and the link after that for moving the database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008:

    mbs2.microsoft.com/.../KBDisplay.aspx

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

This is fairly not an easy question as it involves hardware capabilities as well number of users/products/third party add ons and number of companies to upgrade, and last but not least the amount of data entered or processed in each of the upgrading databases.

My friends and group colleagues might have other things to consider as they are quite some experts in this.... right Richard W?
