Clarification on Business Rule Scope of "All Forms"

Posted on by

My analyst brain is struggling to understand what "All Forms" scope on a Business Rule really means.  Is it:

  1. The fields referenced in the business rule must exist on *all* forms (including Quick Create), even if the user is viewing the Main form in order for the business rule to work, or
  2. Th fields referenced in the business rule must exist on the form the user in viewing in order for the business rule to work.

RE: Clarification on Business Rule Scope of "All Forms"

I am trying to set the value of a currency field to $0.00 if it is null, because it's used as a factor in a calculated field.  For some reason, I cannot get this rule to update existing records.   The fields referenced in the rule exist on all the forms and I have the scope set to All Forms.  I need the calculation to work as the user interacts with the form --- but they will not be interacting with the field on which the rule runs.  Is that why?   If I change the scope to Entity, would it then run on an existing record when the form is opened, regardless of whether the user interacts with it?

I think you can use Entity scope. it will execute on all form and server side. it will be applicable in import records and create and update of record using Organization Service.

    Scope Where it runs run
    Entity All forms and server
    All forms All forms
    Specific form Just that form

    Hello,

    it is 2.

Why don't you use entity scope? Then it will also run when you are bulk importing: community.dynamics.com/.../167757

    Hi,

      I believe it's #2.

The scope is all about what the rule will run for.. And, then, there is that requirement for the fields to be on the form - otherwise, the business rule won't run.
