Reconcile to GL Routine Freezes

Posted on by 2

Greetings,
Running GP 2013 SP2.

My accounting team reported that they cannot run the Reconcile to GL utility on AR.  The window freezes up after clicking the process button.  I tried this myself, made sure the output file was pointed to my local drive, and got the same results (window froze).  It's been frozen for about an hour now.   They normally run this each month and have never seen this behavior.  Does anyone have any idea of things that may be preventing this process or where I can look in SQL to see what may be blocking?

Please see screen shots below.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

RE: Reconcile to GL Routine Freezes

I know this is an old thread, but I am curious.

We were previously importing a single invoice each day with a summary of the transactions. Now we import individual invoices. We have a very large data set.

Our accountants are noticing the Reconcile to GL utility is not running (or maybe it is just taking a long time). As you mentioned here, it ran, but took 6 hours. Is that our only option with this tool? To ask users to kick it off before they leave for the night and hope that it is there in the morning?

Do we have any way to increase the performance of this tool?

    Mahmoud,

The process completed after about 6 hours.  I used the support debugger before I started processing and when I reviewed the logs this morning it appears it was running as designed.  As always, thank you for your help!

    Have a great week!

The process of matching the sub ledger with general ledger is definitely not an easy process when you have a huge amount of data, I have one simulated the same concept of the "Reconcile to GL" utility to build a script for reconciling Checkbook versus General Leger, testing it on a database with almost 8 years of retail transactions result with a bad performance, it took hours to run and provide acceptable results.

What I have concern about is to have the utility entering an infinite loop which will lead to no results at all. Although, as long as it is running, give it time to see the results.

This case is a very convincing when it comes to the importance of removing transaction history for the sub ledger.

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

Mahmoud, Thanks for the response, as always! Yes, there's never a lack of interesting cases in my world!  I've had the process running for about 2.5 hours now and when I look at the session details in SQL, it appears it's processing at a normal speed.  In the window below, it updates as fast as I can click refresh.  I'm going to let it run and see how long it takes as I'm confident it will finish.   Just running a query on RM20101 for September yields over 200K records, so there's obviously a ton of data.  I'll follow up tomorrow.

    Hello Jim

I am always thrilled by the various cases reported from your environment. In this specific one, I would like to ask a question before providing my input

Have you tried to look on the SQL profiler to check whether there are processes running meanwhile ? I do remember that you have a huge amount of transactions so checking whether the process is running or actually frozen is the first step

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,
