PowerApps Portal

Hello Community,

I have the following question, and would appreciate some feedback.

With the new PowerApps portal for Dynamics 365, would we require Dynamics 365 user licenses for portal users to login to the portal, and be able to perform the following actions?

(by portal users I am referring to users who only need to access the portal but don't need to login to Dynamics 365)

- View Dynamics records on the portal

- Update Dynamics records via the portal

And if a license is required, would that be the Team Member license?

Thank you,

Eric

No, you don't need user License for powerups portal for portal Users to log in to the portal, You only require the one time license to buy the portal after that you don't need to pay anything for users.

All your portal users should be a Contact in Dynamics CRM/Dynamics CE.

I never encountered any such limits. All OOB and custom entities can be exposed and used with portals.

Does anyone know if there are any limitations on the Dynamics 365 entities portal users can update via the portal?

    - Can portal users update both out of the box system and custom entities via the portal?

    - Is there a cap on the maximum number of entities portal users can update via the portal?

    Thank you!

    Hi Eric,

All of the above as you described it is valid use case of the portal and those are actually some of the core use cases that the portal can do. You should be good to use it.

    Thanks

    Hi Omar,

Thank you for the inputs, appreciated.

That said, in my described scenario, would those external customers be able to perform the followings on the portal if they don't have Dynamics licenses?

    - View Dynamics records related to them on the portal. So for example, if we have contact records created in Dynamics that represent those external customers. Can we expose the information from the contact record on the portal for them to view?

    - Update Dynamics records related to them via the portal. So using my above example, if we are able to expose the information from the contact record in Dynamics for the external customers to view on the portal, can they also update the information via the portal, and the contact records inside Dynamics would then get updated?

Can the above be achieved without having the external customers accessing the portal without Dynamics licenses assigned?

    Thanks.

    RE: PowerApps Portal

    Hi Eric,

The main purpose of the portal is to have an external facing functionality from CRM available to customers. This in turns means that you "Don't" need extra licences for those customers. Only internal CRM users need those licences.

One thing to be aware of though, portal pricing as of these recent few months, changed to per login pricing, this means that the more customers login into your portal, the more you pay for the portal, but still no individual licences required.

    Hope that helps.

    Omar
