Populate the FetchXML query expression result as Option Set values on a field in MS D365 Online and use that canvas app

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I want to auto populate the FetchXML query expression result as Option Set values on a field in MS D365 Online and use that field in a canvas app.

Can Anyone help me with this with full steps? If there is another way to achieve my requirement that also please tell.

Regards,

Sougata

    Hi,

    Thank you for your query.

You cannot fill an optionset dynamically. Optionsets are based on pre-defined values, you can filter existing optionset values using JavaScript on a farm, however you cannot add new values based on a query.

You can create a lookup for this purpose.

This means, create an entity with required fields (or just default name field only), create a lookup of this entity and add it on the form.

You can bind this lookup to a particular view (add you your criteria in this view).

You can also, bind a fetchxml query with lookup, here are few links for your understanding.

Special field properties for main forms | Microsoft Docs

Apply Custom Filter on Lookup Field in Dynamics CRM using Script | Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM Tips and Tricks (inogic.com)

Finally, you can use the same entity to show options in Canvas app as well.
