Virtual Tables and look up fields

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We are trying to provide a custom lookup that displays fields from two tables in a Dexterity form. We found that we can create a Virtual Table to create a "view" containing the fields we are interested to have in our lookup scrolling window.

We tried this but are getting a missing table error.

Are we missing something or won't a virtual table work?

RE: Virtual Tables and look up fields

I found a way to do this. I created a view in Sql Server that joined the tables we needed. Then I created a table in dexterity with the same name and columns in my view. I had to make sure I included a DEX_ROW_ID field, so in the columns I selected from the tables in the view, I also included the dex_row_id from one of the tables.

Since this Dexterity table actually points to a view it has to be read only and the create is done outside of Dexterity and Dynamics. In Sql Server directly.

I was then able to apply ranges for scrolling windows that used this new table as the source of the range.
