Increase Email Address field size or CC options

Is there way to increase the field size of the email address in Customer Card and Sales Pages like (Sales Order, Invoice)? It holds up to 80 characters, which is not enough for multiple email address. Also the changes should apply to email functions. Or can we add another email address like CC?
Thank you.

    Hi,

Not by default but you can create a new field and you can hide the current one. It will act as a good replacement.

    Hi @DinB ,

Here is what i would suggest.

Create a new table to store Additional e-mail addresses for records like customer or sales order.

The table should look like this

    1. Record ID
    2. Email Type: To, CC, BCC.
    3. Enable

Create page supporting table and add that page to sales order and customer. Users can add additional email addresses as required.

    Usages:

    • While sending emails, scan related records and filter on enabled true.
    • Using code, you can add multiple address in email.

    Remember :

    • No. of Emails or Length of email address per type will support outlook limits.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

If you specifically want a separate CC field (not just more "To" addresses), there's no standard one in BC. You'd need a small customization.
If you found this helpful, please verify the answer so that it can benefit others as well.

    Hello DinB,

I would not increase the standard Customer E-Mail field. The better standard approach is Customer Card → Document Layouts, where Business Central lets you assign one or more contact email addresses for each document type (Invoice, Order Confirmation, Statement, etc.). You can select multiple Contacts or manually enter multiple addresses separated by ; with no spaces, so the 80-character Customer E-Mail field is no longer the limitation. For occasional emails, recipients can also be adjusted in the email editor. If your requirement is specifically to have a separate CC address automatically added every time a certain document is sent, that would normally require a small email customization; Business Central’s email framework is extensible for this purpose. So I would recommend Document Layouts/Contacts for multiple standard recipients, and customization only if you specifically need automatic To vs CC behavior.

As standard you can use document layouts per customer/vendor to add more email addresses, and direct reports to different receipients.

Hi, no, the length of a standard field can't be changed from an extension, the 80 characters stay. A new custom field would mean pointing all the email functions to it, not worth it.

Standard has a better place. On the Customer Card open Document Layouts. There you set per document type, invoice, order confirmation, statement, a Send to Email field, and it's much longer, 200 characters as far as memory serves. Several addresses go in with semicolon, and you can also pick them from the customer's contacts. BC takes that address first when the document is sent.

For CC, the email editor has CC and BCC already, so by hand it works. Automatic CC needs a small extension.

Glad to help - follow up if anything is unclear.

►  If this solved it, marking it verified helps others too.
