Do you have any plugin or workflow registered in the entity? Did you downloaded the logs , is there anything which related to your customization ?
Sometimes this error is coming when server is busy and doing some internal operation. So you have to wait , until those operation is finish.
If you are on premise you can restart all server , CRM async service .in addition try to disable plugins steps, and workflow attach to the system.
If you are online you have to wait or you can raise a ticket to MS.

If this is CRM Online you should open a ticket with Microsoft.
If this is on-premices you can increase timeout - blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-crm-timeout-settings you should change only registry part.
