GL Batch Not Posted

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have a recurring batch of about 40 GL transactions.  I have used it for years, updating amounts and posting at the end of every monthly accounting cycle.  I posted it today.  The batch says that the date last posted is today.  However, I cannot see a single one of the journal entries posted in the GL.  There were no errors shown.  There is nothing in the batch recovery window.  I'm not sure where to look.  Doesn't really seem like I should just post it again.

Yep, I tell everyone before posting what you know to be there, be sure you know what is there.

Always reviewing the Edits is a great suggestion for anyone.

It may seem silly, but this is why I'm always reminding my end-users to review the edit list before posting.

Nope that unfortunately sounds like a good resolution.

You should consider using the Correct Function in the GL to reverse and re-enter the transactions.  IF they are all correct, you can do in one step the back out from the wrong period and the repost to the correct period.

Hope this lightens the work a bit.  Good luck.

Thanks for the help.  Your questions eventually led me to what I believe to be the problem.

Last month, I posted the batch and one JE did not post because it was out of balance.  I created a one time JE, outside of the batch, to record the JE that was out of balance.  I did not re-post the batch as I thought that it would create duplicate postings for all of the JE's that had posted properly.  When I posted the batch this month, the only JE that actually posted was the one that was out of balance last month.  Apparently, the system must keep track of which JE's post or don't post within a batch.  So, when I posted this month, even though I had changed the dates on all the JE's, the system thought that the only one left to post was the out of balance JE from the month before.

I've got a lot of work to do to fix everything but at least I think I understand the problem.  Let me know if this all makes sense or you see another issue.

Could be posted today but what was the GL posting date?  Reprint your posting journal (or look at the one you may have) to verify dates

Did you look in the prior month?  Did you by any chance change the date to a wrong period?

When you look at the detail inquiry for one of the accounts you are not seeing any transaction ( that would have been in the batch )

Can you / Did you print a Posting Journal?  If not, can you print a posting journal and use the DATE you posted as the search parameters.
