Hello,
We do construction work in Central America, in which we order materials from US vendors that are shipped down to our sites. Most of the materials we order are FOB-Origin, so we need to book entries into the system before we actually receive the shipment. Many times we receive and need to pay the invoices before the goods are received.
I am looking for the best way to enter the invoices into the system for the PO that has not been received yet. I was thinking about doing a "fake" receipt fo the goods and putting them to an in-transite site in the inventory system, and then transferring them to the real Site/Bin when the goods are received. This will allow us to enter the invoice and pay it, and still keep it linked to the PO. There seems to be a lot of room for error doing this, and the fact that we track serial numbers on some of the items looks like trouble as well.
Can anyone offer some suggestions on how you have overcome the need to do something like this?
Thank you,
Jim
