Drop down list - Modifier

Posted on by 1,910

Hi all,

I have used Modifier to replace some text for SOP Type (Sales Transaction Type). While I am able to see the altered text in Modifier, it(altered text) does not appear in the SOP Trx window. Only the original text appears on the Transaction window. Any ideas would be appreciated.

When you access the Modifier for the first time, all of the core resources for the

application dictionary are copied to the forms dictionary from DYNAMICS.DIC. Core

resources include strings, data types and global fields that are used by several parts

of the system. Once core resources have been copied to the Forms dictionary, the

runtime engine will look there first when it retrieves resources from the dictionary.

Any additions or modifications you make to core resources will be stored in the forms

dictionary. The modifications will be accessed automatically when you use Microsoft

    Dynamics GP.

I would try copying the DYNAMICS.DIC file as well.

    Donald/Richard,

I copied the forms.dic, it came across with the values (in modifier) but still they did not show front-end. I may try copying the entire GP folder across.

OK, So Production Server A has the modified version and the dropdown values are as modified. You took the same FORMS.DIC and then copied it to Production Server B. When you go into Modifier do you see the newly defined values? Now I have not done this in a while, but what would happen if you copied over the entire GP program folder from Prod A to Prod B? Perhaps these changes you are making reside in the DYNAMICS.DIC file or some other file?

    Hi Peter,

If TEST is working then your intended production environment must have the modified forms.dic file from TEST in order to see the changes you have made.

    Hi Richard,

I have two separate server installations (test and intended production). Test environment has updated the values as desired (I used the modifier). The production environment is not updating/reflecting the new values. So my question is - what could be different in Production (but working well in the test server)?. The two instances should not share the launch file.

Are you using a shared FORMS.DIC? Changing the strings in RW would allow you change all string prompts throughout GP. So if you wanted to see Clients as opposed to Customers on all forms and reports this is where you would change it. Apparently it does not work for the values in dropdown lists. Make sure you go to Edit Launch File and that both GP clients are pointing to the same FORMS.DIC file and that all users have been granted access to use the modified forms.

    Hi Donald,

No they are not, and they should not. But even importing the package from the environment where it is working has not helped matters.

    Hi Richard,

I am just wondering if the values for a GP form will get updated by changing them within the Report-writer. I thought that what is changed within the Report Writer affects reports only. I have tried your suggestion - still to no avail at the front-end (I have changed the string, filed and data-type).

    Hi Peter,

Are both environments looking at the same forms.dic file?  My gut tells me they are not.   I cannot think of any other reason why you would be experiencing this issue.

    Hi Donald,

In both cases I am working on test environments - whereby I am the only who is developing/accessing the form. On one environment, I see the changes reflected on the front-end, but on the second environment they(changes) are not. I am yet to roll out to the other users.
